Is it worth paying for hypnobirthing?

Updated: 16 hours ago

Baby on the way and you suddenly have a big long list of things to buy. Adverts surround you for the latest baby gear.

You may wonder if you really need it all. The answer is you probably don't. Much of the fancy equipment goes unused or barely used. You'll forget all about the fancy baby gear after a few months.

You may not care about what pram you had in 10 years time. Believe me I know: I was a pram addict and bought a fair few over the years having my four.

Now, I can barely recall those prams and they are insignificant in my memories. But the birth experiences - I'll always remember those. My first was almost 17 years ago and I can still remember it all - and regret not preparing for it.

I didn't need a class I thought, no way was I going to spend money on that kind of thing. It was much more fun baby clothes and equipment shopping - after all I needed those things. The birth, well I could just trust the professionals to tell me what to do on the day. Or I could read a few books, take a short freebie class and that would do. I vaguely knew there was probably other classes out there but thought they weren't for me. I thought I had to just do the basics, that private classes were out of my budget, something I didn't want to look into because I thought I couldn't afford it.

17 years later I can honestly say had I thought about learning some coping techniques, prepared my mind and gone into it with a different approach - I'd be remembering that birth for the right reasons. I wouldn't be looking back thinking how different things could have been if I'd not gone into it hoping for the best but not preparing for it.

The birth experience is probably one of the biggest days in your life. But how can you get ready for that?

With all you think you need to buy, why would you spend money on hypnobirthing? A good class won't be cheap (because it's bloody worth so much) but how is it really going to help you? Here’s how and why:

🌟If hearing other people’s scary birth stories is making you feel anxious about what's ahead, hypnobirthing will help you to feel calm, confident and in control of your own story. Your birth story can be a positive one, even if it doesn't go to plan.

🌟Hypnobirthing will enable your birth partner to have an active role in supporting you. They'll learn easy and effective ways to help keep you calm, be your support person and help you through it, without feeling like a spare part.

🌟Hypnobirthing will help reduce stress levels during pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.

🌟Hypnobirthing will help to reduce worry around birth and enable you to take control of your birth experience.

🌟Hypnobirthing will give you mind-calm skills that you can take into everyday life - which will continue to be useful during the whole parenting journey - long after the expensive equipment you didn't need has had it's day.

🌟Hypnobirthing can help you feel more informed and able to make decisions with the maternity team around your care. You'll know the right questions to ask if you are unsure.

🌟Hypnobirthing will help you no matter how your birth turns out - we don't promise a perfect birth and no course should do that. However even if things don't go to plan or you need intervention - the skills you learn will be there to help you through it.

🌟Hypnobirthing will help you to look back on birth as a positive experience - the way I teach my classes ensures that we are not aiming for the perfect experience, so you won't feel let down if things don't go to plan. In fact, quite the opposite - you'll feel empowered, informed and able to meet whatever labour brings head on.

Preparing your mind for one of the biggest events in your life should be top of your shopping list.

So many times I hear people tell me it's too expensive, they don't know if it's worth it, they don't really want to spend that much on a class.

So many times I see people say they can't afford a hypnobirthing class but then spend a fortune on a baby gender reveal party, photo shoots or the latest pregnancy thing - then go on to talk of their traumatic birth, or tell me how awful the birth was.
Hypnobirthing in no way guarantees a good birth, that you won't need intervention or it won't go wrong - but it does give you a massive help in coping with it. It gives you options. The cost thing - I get it, I really do. It took me until baby number four until I wanted to actually spend money on birth prep. I thought it was too expensive, waste of time, might not work, couldn't afford it. I only wish I'd spent the money a lot earlier than my fourth birth. What I gained from that class all those years ago was priceless. So much so that I went on to train to share this with other parents. I do believe because I have been there and done it myself, the value of my experience is so beneficial to you. Because I have been where you are now - I have walked the walk. You may still be wondering if this is for you. Times are tough for people and you'll want to be sure you are getting value for money.

Is it worth it?

Well I was talking to a friend the other day who told me she is still using her hypnobirthing techniques 10 years on!

Think about that - these are skills you won't forget, won't lose and won't stop being useful after a few months.

Birth partners have also come back long after their courses to tell me they used the self hypnosis skills for sports, job interviews, work stresses and much more.

Add to all of that the many hours of research and planning that goes into your course. The years of experience, learning and preparation your course teacher has gone through.

As one client told me "Your training and support were priceless".
You can book a course with a low deposit, and I also offer affordable payment plans - just ask and we can work out a way to help you. We can also look at arranging different course packages to suit your budget. Cost should never be a barrier to learning these skills, but be in no doubt that it is worth every penny you pay. 👍
This really is an investment in you, your birth partner and your baby. It's a skill for life.

It's an investment in your mental and physical well-being.

It's an investment in your birth experience that will stay with you for years to come - I should know, like my friend I too still use the skills I gained on my course all those years ago.

Don't just take my word for it - have a read of some of the many birth stories from clients over the years who this has helped.
